Good Friday - A Lasting Memory Of Jesus Of Nazareth Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Good Friday - A Lasting Memory Of Jesus Of Nazareth

Rating: 5.0

The Jesus of all times
The Jesus the world remembers
The Jesus who taught of love and sacrifice
The Jesus who encouraged forgiveness and peace
The same Jesus who died on a cross
The same Jesus who was crucified
The same Jesus who was innocent;
The same Jesus who rose on Easter day
The same Jesus who promised us resurrection
The same Jesus who taught us compassion;
The same Jesus who washed His apostle's feet
The same Jesus who cured the sick
The same Jesus who revived the dead.

The same Jesus can you imitate?
The same Jesus can you resemble?
The same Jesus can you pretermit?
The same Jesus can you replicate?
The same Jesus can you be?
The same Jesus can anyone outshine?

He was born in Bethlehem
He lived in simplicity and humbleness
He went to no university,
He wore no suit or tie, not even shoes,
yet He preached to so many.
He had twelve disciples with him
and wherever He went people flocked
to listen to Him.

He even calmed the storm
He made many miracles.
yet He was condemned by kings
and betrayed by a friend.
He died on a cross
with a crown of thorns on His head
and five nails that kept Him hanging
on that cross until He breathed His last
yet He rose to heaven.

The world re-enacts
His walk uphill to Mt. Calvary
and His crucifixion scene.
In His memory they grieve,
and observe the day of His death
as Good Friday, year after year;
they celebrate His Resurrection as Easter.

Can anyone ever be like Him
The Jesus of Nazareth?
Can anyone of you ever replace Him
when no university education had He,
no riches nor wealth had He,
yet to the world belongs His memory,
His teachings, His glorification,
all so perpetually.

Great poem Bernedita. I think you have beautifully captured the incomparable figure of Christ here. It's a 10 from me! You might like to check out my Easter poems. I've posted several about Good Friday already today.
