Gossipin Folkz Poem by Jasmine Brinkley

Gossipin Folkz

What keeps the people talking?
The same thing that keeps a sinful man walking
Its on everyone’s lips
Ooh girl she did this he did that
Its never all quite matter of fact
The hatred that flows from lips hang on every tongue
Gossip acts as a new sport a new type of politics
Some fundamental principle set to destroy others
One word can break a family and destroy a being
It consumes all with no predisposition for color or race
It sees no need to discriminate
How did we come to posses the nuclear weapons of communications?
Every day we go to war with our WMD’s
Claiming more victims that STD’s
Some with no disregard for others
It can destroy a persons body mind and soul
The triumvirate is broken
The very fabric that keeps us all together is what threatens to tear apart
Every has secrets
Tells little lies
Hidden thoughts and feelings behind meaningful sighs
If looks could kill
This planet would be barren
But someone may be more than they seem
Not willing to back down and face the truth
But what I want to know is..Could that person ever be you?
What keeps the people talking?
The same thing that keeps a sinful man walking
Its on everyone’s lips
Ooh girl she did this he did that
Its never all quite matter of fact
The hatred that flows from lips hang on every tongue
Gossip acts as a new sport a new type of politics
Some fundamental principle set to destroy others
One word can break a family and destroy a being
It consumes all with no predisposition for color or race
It sees no need to discriminate
How did we come to posses the nuclear weapons of communications?
Every day we go to war with our WMD’s
Claiming more victims that STD’s
Some with no disregard for others
It can destroy a persons body mind and soul
The triumvirate is broken
The very fabric that keeps us all together is what threatens to tear apart
Every has secrets
Tells little lies
Hidden thoughts and feelings behind meaningful sighs
If looks could kill
This planet would be barren
But someone may be more than they seem
Not willing to back down and face the truth
But what I want to know is...Could that person ever be you?
