Guppy River Poem by Kelly Zion

Guppy River

I made a deal with you, little shiny lights of mine
I'd bring you back to here your home, if you be my friends for a while.
So beautiful, you shiny lights; so pretty sleeping in the dark
Let me catch you just for mine, bring Cheer into my little heart
After all who would ever know
About your beautiful world?

We made a bargain, they and I;
I brought back eight shiny lights
My dark world got quiet for a while
As I watched those tiny lights.

Two of you didn't make it
But you saved my little life
And when the final day came
I carried my tiny lights
Back to the guppy river

And I walked away and cried into the sea
Because there was nothing beautiful left
In my tiny world
And I picked mangoes as it rained
And as I walked, I forgot the pain
And I went home again
And felt a little better when
I fell asleep on the floor

And I left that place and it rained some more
And I missed my tiny lights
Fighting the current in their home
And I thought about how sad it was
That nothing made sense anymore
And dreamt about a shiny world
One like the guppy river
And as I slept and grew quiter
I think I might've went there

We made a bargain, they and I;
I brought back eight shiny lights
My dark world got quiet for a while
As I watched those tiny lights.
