Happy Ever After Poem by Kate Austin

Happy Ever After

in the end, everyone ends up alone
but you don't have to have a heart made of stone
you can choose to love and live your life right
have dreams that put you to sleep every night

everyone's gotta hold on to something real
don't lose your heart unless it's hers to steal
keep your hopes up high and your head down low
it's not about how fast you get there but how you choose to go

but everything i want to say isn't coming out right
if this thing is going to work you have to let in the light
hold on to your sanity but let your mind go free
it's okay to be wrong and fall out of the tree

it's funny to know we're under the same night sky
staring up at the same moon, seeing the same stars fly
even when you're so far away it seems like you're right next to me
drawing pictures in the sky that only we can see

i'm not a princess and this doesn't have a happy ending
but we can get damn close even when our wills are bending
we can make this into our own happy ever after
drown out the tears with the sounds of our laughter
