He Did Not Win Me As A Recruit Poem by Francis Duggan

He Did Not Win Me As A Recruit

Rating: 5.0

Though he knew that on it with him I would not agree
Of a life after death he could not convince me
Though his point of view he does put rather well
Of the existence of an after life heaven and hell
I did not argue with him left him have his say
Told him that his views on the subject were different to mine but with me that is okay
He did not win me as a recruit with him for to pray
To the God of his choice in church on sunday
He almost had me convinced I was living in sin
No doubt with his powers of persuasion new converts he will win
For the church of the God he professes to love, some need something to believe in
He has given up on me as one for the too hard bin
He tried to convince me that not believing in God was a damnation crime
Till he came to realize that on that he was wasting his time.
