He Gave A Nod Poem by Nestor David Armas

He Gave A Nod

With my last breath
On the throes of emotional death,
I tried to put the dying embers out,
With my last strength I wanted to shout,
The life within me flickered and I thought surely
It would die with just my intent purely;
Like her memory which I wanted to erase,
No longer did I want to remember her face;
But if it would have been that easy;
I wouldn't have felt so sick and queasy,
It wouldn't have hurt that much,
Still felt the burn of her touch;
A part of me was dying with her distance,
Away from me, a slow miserable last dance,
With her last memorable thought,
But as I was falling into the void I was caught;
I gave one last stutter
And my heart gave a weak flutter,
I gave a final yell towards the heavens; God
Bring her back; it can't end this way; and he gave a nod,
As she broke her silence like the sun
Breaking through clouds; I put away the gun,
I picked myself up to go at it once more;
Hard to get up again with a pain difficult to ignore;
But in her return I found crutches; support
I hoped to never again find myself outside of her fort...
