Hello Uncle Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

'Hi and hello uncle! Do you remember me? '
I turned back to see a face smiling one and lovely
'No dear friend' I apologetically surrendered
So as not to look useless and wondered

'Chand'* is my name and do you recollect?
You were kind enough to take care and act
Today I own a farm house and live with family
Happy one and blessed of two children by almighty

The past moments rushed on the screen
Oh yes, beautiful face was almost seen
Early morning cry from a garbage heaps
Where he was abandoned with nothing in lips

I used to go for stroll with spaces very fast
The distant cry was heard along with dog's bark
I rushed to the spot and found lovely child
His eyes were closed after pronged cry but nevertheless not blind

I called for help but turned with no response
It was isolated place and invited bad fragrance
The child was wrapped in dirty cloth
Moving legs and raising hands both

I thought for a while and picked up the boy
Even though I had full family but it did annoy
I cursed the mother who had deserted child
Yet I was sympathetic and now turned mild

I thought for several days and made frantic search
I failed in all the attempts but could not reach
My faith forbade me to rear child of unknown descent
I decided to give him to a childless friend and sent

I felt relieved when found that he was nursed properly
Coming up with age and raised very orderly
Many years passed there after and I lost the touch
I wondered how boy could remember me with long absence as such

I was fed with about your generosity by my foster parent
Showed your photo and reminded me of chance as heavenly sent
I could recognize you and rushed for the blessing
'Can I touch your feet' as for all these year I was chasing

I remained motionless for several moments
How a boy remembered me for such nice comment?
Was that not the humanity call I responded with?
Few tear drops rushing in eyes as tongue remained tight behind teeth
