Her/Me Poem by Samantha McKinnon

Her/Me

She looks so miserable
Standing across from me.
She tries to wash away
The shadows beneath her eyes
But they're impenetrable.
Confusion engulfs her face as I ask "When did you last sleep? "
Silence.
She moves closer
and begins to analyze my eyes.
"When did you forget the sun? "
Silence.
Suddenly her eyes fill with rage
As she charges at me.
She begins to stab
and slice
and burn me.
I close my eyes.
Block her out.
I just need to block her out.
And the next thing I know:
Silence.
I survey the room
But she's gone.
I rise to fix myself up
And my blood runs cold
As the terror
And realization
Washes over me:
There was no other girl.
It was all me.
It was only me.
