Hercules And The Fountain Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Hercules And The Fountain

Hercules on rare nights
that is his shadow
been spotted round
the secret fountain

the shadow moans
‘Ah! where be
The strength of long ago? '
Ah! long ago
I would have lifted
This fountain with
One hand'

So plained the voice,
Trembling.

Treble deep inside
The shadow
The pain
The humiliation
Felt

So you, my Monsignor,
So me,
The Age and Time
Together wreak
Dynasties, successions,
Descents, power and
Glory
To a little dust in hand
Transformed:
Just a little dust.
