Honest Enough Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Honest Enough

When truth isn't the truth.
And close to declare truth,
A fading fashion statement.
To protect someone,
Known to have lost their taste for it.
Not only are we living,
In times when many are out of their minds.
We too have also accepted,
Truth to be redefined as lies to believe.
And truth once said.
Lays somewhere buried and dead.

Anytime and anywhere.
Truth to speak it becomes suspect.
And reported to the authorities.
With no one upset to object to this.
Who is there left honest enough.
To allow themselves to be ridiculed and handcuffed.
By the ones already corrupted.
Hoping to be honored for their bravery.
And a chance to receive higher pay.
