Hope Poem by V. T. Bullock

Hope

I know what I’m so afraid to discover,
The love, the touch of a lover
I can’t stand the obligation
My complete and utter devotion
To one person, one man one being
Someone who knows everything about me, all seeing
To trust and to love, to hope for all of that in return
From whom there is so much to learn
I don’t know if I can do it again
All my friends say do it, jump right into it
But it’s not that simple, they don’t understand
I’ve been hurt before, by one man
I don’t know if I can do it again
But what do I do when he says he’ll love me like no other
Those other emotions, pain, hurt, I cannot just smother
But now there are new emotions
A love as strong as the mysteries of the oceans
I think I can do it and live with the past
As long as we don’t move too fast
I think it can be done
I think you’re the one
