Horseband And Wolf Poem by Ikechukwu Ogbuike

Horseband And Wolf

Two different a culture
Seeking for one united future
One has the legs of flight
The other has been conditioned to walk with stealth
Building a house to accommodate
Those things that soon becomes out of date
Unless from an understanding that love
Does not always translate to a steady groove
But the uncertain walk of a toddler including the zig zag
Life is never wholesome in its trajectory until an acknowledgment that the wind has a drag
It continues to remain strange
Like distant tales of distant times told by the sage
This unification of diversity
Which forms the foundation of sustainable humanity
It’s totally at variance
Even though there is divinity in this alliance
How a damsel could leave her father’s house
On a lifetime journey to share intimacies with a louse
Ask Adam
He would probably say he was restless until Eve became his madam
When they say it’s a man’s world
Maybe they mean it’s a world with expectations that are odd
Where the horse bands with the rest to hearken to a call to come west
A dream which short-circuits because the wolf howled a tune that put paid to this quest
It’s a journey that is sacred
The world still thrives because both of them dared.
