How Can I?

How can I be your friend
When you push me away
How can I be your friend
When you don't hear what I say

How can I make you listen
When you hate your life
How can I make you listen
When you try to use the knife

How can I heal your pain
When you are full of hate
How can I heal your pain
When you've already chosen your fate

How can I believe your words
When you don't really care
How can I believe your words
When you are not being fair

How can I feel truly safe
When you have rage in your heart
How can I feel truly safe
When you were dark from the start

How can I understand
When you act the way you do
How can I understand
When you never give me a clue

How can I?

Once more the weight of your poem far outweights your years and you get a weighty score for me. The most welcome aspect of your poems to me is that, despite belonging to the modern generation that indulges freely in free verse, you have opted for the classical style which has eternal charm and which I have succeeded in reviving, by and large, through my 'Metverse Muse', the world's premier poetry journal in English. The latest 'Silver Jubilee Issue' of this journal carries over 750 poems in STRUCTURED VERSE by over 550 World Poets representing over 60 countries. (Report) Reply

Whate'er we leave to God, God does,
And blesses us;
The work we choose should be our own,
God leaves alone.
