How Many Songs Have I Heard Today - Poem by Shalom Freedman

HOW MANY SONGS HAVE I HEARD TODAY

How many songs have I heard today
While searching for a poem?

In a way the songs are greater
They lift me more easily in feeling -

But the poems however more difficult and mind-meant
Are my soul-

The songs belong to others
However happily I sing them-

I can make a poem of my own
And its thought will go beyond
What a song can do-

I am not singing this
I am writing it-
