How Micanopy Got Its Name Poem by Sidi Mahtrow

An early settler to the area
Had a prostate problem
Probably an infection of a venereal disease
Mic as he was called, could't pee.

Except as a painful discharge.

When he went about by horse back
The jogging pace of the horse
Was painful and he often walked
Rather than ride.

Riding in a wagon or carriage was even more painful.

So when Mic came walking through the woods
He was greeted by the Indians and blacks
Who lived in the area as,
Mic can no pee.

White settlers in the area named it,
Micanopy
It is not pronounced Mi Canopy
Rather Mic Can No Pee.
