I Am With The Animals Poem by Skylark Woodrow

I Am With The Animals

I was born,
I laughed,
I cried,
I played,
I learned,
And I went into the world beyond my little home-world.
There I laughed,
I cried,
I played,
I was hurt;
They laughed,
I learned.
From then I was with the animals.
I was with the squirrels in the trees,
I was with the butterflies chasing the breeze,
I was with the fish swimming in the streams,
I was with the cats sleeping in sunbeams.
I was lost to that human world of pain and suffering,
I was lost to the world where people only cared about themselves,
Where people hurt others to feel good,
Where friends betrayed friends,
And where all hope, trust, and love were lost.
I let them alone in their world;
I was with the animals.
With them I was surrounded by love,
Trust,
Loyalty,
And protected from the ways of the world.
I learned that love and loyalty overcome all boundaries,
And to give all was but to gain.

I am with the animals.
They belong to me,
And I to them.
Between us there is an unbreakable bond,
A bond of all that is true and worthy,
A bond of love and trust that has never been known,
Nor will ever be known to the human world.
