I Believe This Midnight Won't Last Poem by Mark Heathcote

I Believe This Midnight Won't Last

I believe this midnight won't last
Although always in the wrong
Every fight has a looser and a victor
So I've got to display my plumage
Show I've got undimmed courage
I've got to keep this unshakeable faith;
That I'm right where I belong
And you'll return home
Or else you'll despise my weakness
And a sour taste will never mend a token kiss
You, never thought to give again.
I believe this midnight won't last
So I live in hope this cloud is eastward bound
And soon the sun will rise afire
When I'll pluck you a single red rose
To signify my heart is yours now and forever.
