I Had Myself A Dream Poem by Randy McClave

I Had Myself A Dream

I had myself a dream
Or though that it did seem,
Of freedom and equality for this land
Shaped by a battered and a broken hand.
Bigotry and racism was now all gone
We saw each other as our equal, and one,
We didn't care about the color of our skin
Because, we are not children, but men.
We pushed forward for education and health
We rejected greed and needless wealth,
Homelessness was almost dead
As everyone was cared for, and also fed.
Guns no longer did exist
A helping hand came from a closed fist,
And when we saw an immigrant, either legal or illegal
We smiled as we remember the American bald eagle.
We destroyed all walls and then we built bridges
Together we joined countries and also ridges,
We all decided to walk in the steps of Christ
Knowing on our souls he paid the price.
We erased all words that caused evil and hate
Our country was finally peaceful and also great,
Then I awoke from my sleep with a gleam
Another man was murdered, for having the same dream.
