Treasure Island

I Have No Idea

I have no idea
I have no idea

You would think
After all the ideas I’ve had
Since that very first idea
That at least one idea
Would be the idea
Bottomless enough
To swallow all my ideas
So that the resulting belch
Had some meaning
Other than regurgitation

I have no idea
I have no idea
I just have no idea

Examine that for a moment
It says nothing
You keep examining it
& then just maybe it says something
It talks about not having ideas
But isn’t an idea
Not having
An idea
An idea?

Sure it is, but somehow it doesn’t matter
Doesn’t validate
It’s like having a dollar
When something costs one dollar and 2 cents
You almost have it
But not quite
Its like having a sandwich
Made completely out of air

I have no idea
I have no idea

I have always wanted to have ideas
Ever since I was a kid
Ever since I was a young man
Ever since I had a job
Ever since I had kids
Ever since I had bills to pay
Ever since I lost God in a poker game

Losing God
Is a bit like having a sandwich
& not being hungry

It doesn’t make sense
At least
Not to me
It may make sense to you
Because you talk
Like you have some idea
Having ideas

I listen to you
I envy you
I have no idea
I envy you

That sounds suspiciously
Like an idea
& it might be
If it meant something

It doesn’t

It’s a bit like sucking
On an empty bottle of scotch

I have no idea
That idea meant

If it meant anything
At all

Poem of the Day

poet William Wordsworth

I AM not One who much or oft delight
To season my fireside with personal talk.--
Of friends, who live within an easy walk,
Or neighbours, daily, weekly, in my sight:
