I Mourn For You Poem by Sasanka Sekhar Panda

I Mourn For You

Forgive me my child
I could not show you light.
This cruel world crushed you
in the darkness of the womb
where you were safely and joyously
nourished by my blood and food intake.

You could have been a doctor,
an engineer, a teacher,
a pilot, an astronaut, a soldier,
a social activist, a politician
or anything else,
whatever a man can be.

You could have been a loving mother,
a sister, a daughter, a wife and even
could have fought for women empowerment.
But baby, paying deaf ear to my protest,
without my consent
they crushed you in the womb
those cruel father, grandfather
uncles and brothers.

Please forgive me my child
for this disaster and the
cruelty the manfolk perpetuate.

*Infanticide: Every day innumerable girl children are killed in the wombs of mothers through forced abortion secretly, although the India Government have banned such cruel criminal act.
