I Saw Me Poem by C. Cory Spencer

I Saw Me

Rating: 5.0

I once saw the man I would be,
then I lost him in the crowd.
Forgotten, until today, when
I saw me, across the street
startled, staring terrified!
He knew me, I knew him.
We slowly approached me
not knowing what to expect.

Simultaneously, as if on cue
we both said, 'Who are you! '
I observed I was older/younger
dirtier/cleaner, weaker/stronger,
smarter/dumber, 'I am Me! '
Frightened I ran away/toward me.
this predicament persisted, until
I wondered who am I escaping/chasing?

Stopping I said,
'I've been looking for you! '
'Yeah I know.'
'Did you ever find him? '
'No, you? '
'no...'
'Damn! '
'yep...'
I've searched all my life to find myself,
I wasn't what I expected.

A very unusual voyage of self-discovery - good write.
