I See You - Poem by Mia Baer

I see you
But my mind drifts
I much prefer
The golden smear just beyond
Driftwood of sunken ships
Overhanging branches
Underlying roots
Nocturnal bird songs
Constellations above us
Dreams within us
The memories i keep
But i am jolted by the
Chattering chin of the
Ventriloquists twin
When you look right at me
Eye to eye
