I Spoke To My Bird And Asked: Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

I Spoke To My Bird And Asked:

I spoke to my Bird and asked:
Do you know why I be so sad today?
Looked at me the Bird; and spoke not.
Nor sang.
Then I;
One hundred years ago
A little away I n this very City
Was born a girl
A girl who brought joy
To mother and to family
She grew
Reared
She married
Had four pregnancies
One son lived only
The All and civilization
To him be an open book
Here and there he vets
Here and there he changes
Transforms
Civilization to new
And
Civilization to civilization
This he showed
This he made
And how transformation to transformation made

This was her Child
That was his Mother
