I Thought She Liked Me Poem by Randy McClave

I Thought She Liked Me

I thought that she liked me for my looks
Or how I was well versed in books,
And how I had a positive personality
And how I was stabilized in reality.
I thought that she liked me because I was always there
When she needed help or a prayer,
I thought that she liked me because I was a writer
And because once I was a fighter.
I thought that she liked me because i am a good dad
And I like seeing people happy and not sad,
And also because I enjoy going to church
It is where for love and peace I do search.
I thought that she liked me because I stay in shape
And also because I enjoy to landscape,
And I thought that she liked me because I enjoy to cook
And also because I'm not a liar or a cheat or a crook.
I thought that she liked me because I had a job
Because of that I don't plea or beg or ever rob,
And also because I am proud and not ever lazy
And also because I don't drink or smoke and I'm not at all crazy.
But, then after my belongings to her I had loaned
I found out that she only liked me because what I owned,
And then when I opened my empty wallet with a sigh
She just loved me, because what I could buy.
