I'Ve Missed The Boat Poem by Percy Dovetonsils

I'Ve Missed The Boat

Rating: 4.5

I’ve missed the boat.
And that’s not the
only one.

I miss boats, and trains, and planes
daily.
hourly.

There hasn’t been a moment
go by
for decades

when I haven’t missed
connections
beyond counting.

Maybe the fairer question is
Have I ever CAUGHT
anything?

Yes.

But not
lately.
Nothing
recent
comes to mind.

Lately
I’ve been left

standing

on the platform
in the terminal
on the dock
in the station

standing
and
waving

to you.

You.

YOU.

Individually
and in
throngs.

You.

Who have
successfully

Embarked.
Boarded.
Climbed the gangplank.
Made your connection.

You.

Who are
in transit
en route
to your
destination.

You.

With your face
pressed
against
the porthole.

You.

Leaning over
the railing
waving
gaily

to me

as the great ship
SLIDES

out of
port.
