What do you think this poem is about?

I was Asked a Simple Question

I was asked a simple question today
Would I have done it any other way?
As I looked at myself in the mirror
The answer there, couldn’t have been clearer

For what I saw there
Was something faithful and rare
I didn’t just see a reflection of me, but you
Standing at my back, always proving to be true

The road I walked was hard and long
And it was your strength that made me strong
You were the reason I chose this door
You’re the reason why I love life even more

So much of me I learned from you
To laugh, to love, to name a few
And all those beauty tips, yeah I learned that too
Together, forever, there is nothing we can’t do

Because you were here
I can stand without fear
The one who whispered in my ears
The shoulder I lean on over the years

I was asked a simple question today
Would I have done it any other way?
No, because no matter how it ends
I am who I am today because you were my friend
