I Wish Poem by Samantha McKinnon

I Wish

I wish things were different
When I look in the mirror.
I wish I would see
Someone standing in place of me.
I wish I could be happier
And free from me.
I wish things were different
When I think about you.
I wish I didn't see pain
And blinking lights
And tears
And your eyes.
I wish you could have been loving and sweet.
I wish things were different
When I smile.
I wish I could mean it more
And actually feel it.
I wish I was more open
To letting people see beyond the surface.
I wish it could be easier and more carefree.
I wish things were different
When the flashbacks hit
And make me wish
I could be
Anything but me.

Convincing and alrming- filled with honesty and regret; but that is true pain and honest: very honest alarming poem.
