If I Die Poem by Chukwukadibia Benjamin

If I Die

Rating: 5.0

If I die
I would be glad I once made thee smile

If I die
I would be glad I once brought thee inside
When it storms and rains outside

If I die
I would be glad I gave thee my coat
And comforted thee when sick and cold

If I die
I would be glad thou once shared my bed
When thine was forcefully held

If I die
I would be glad I listened to thy story
When thou was rejected and lonely

If I die
I would be glad I was a friend
Who always cared how thou fared

If I die
I want to be glad I once wiped thy tears
When thy face was drained of cheers

If I die
I want to be glad I was kind
Allaying all the fears in thy mind

If I die
I want to feel peace in my heart
Knowing I have shown thee the right path

If I die
I want to be happy I once held thy hand
And prayed the prosperity of our land

If I die
I would be happy I joined in thy fight
On thy behalf took a bullet

If I die
I want to be glad I was a shoulder to lean
And thy strength through thick and thin

If I die
I would be glad I helped thee reach a height
Thou couldn't get alone by thy strength and might

If I die
I want to be glad I was a brother
In whose company thou would of no evil border

If I die
I want to be glad my life was fully poured out
And that I had nothing in life to regret about

If I die
No matter time and place
Think of me with smiles on thy face

Beautiful piece of poetry, well articulated and elegantly brought forth in good rhyme scheme with conviction. An insightful poem nicely written from inner recesses of the heart. Thanks for sharing Benjamin. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
