When Smiles Fade Poem by Chukwukadibia Benjamin

When Smiles Fade

When thou can't fathom the songs the world sings
And each passing day thy dreams seem to shrink
When thou feel like flying away
And all thy efforts seem not to pay
When the spirit seems tired to pray
And thou pray thy soul not to fall a prey
When thy heart any more can't wait
And thy strength grows thin and faint

When smiles fade
And the storms appear like thou can't wade
When things go not to plan
While thou have done all thou can
And had given all thou had
When thou lack the zest to carry on
And all thy sweet memories seem gone
When loneliness lulls with melancholic lullaby
And thy days seem to be fleeting away by

When friendships feel like illusory deception
And true love sounds like delusive illusion
When the people that make thy life glow
Suddenly are hidden on the ground below
When honest friendship is in scarcity
And ten godly men can't be found in the city
When giving out thy heart is risking a horror
Who enjoys a broken heart with all its terror?

When thy best deeds are criticized
By men who simple tasks can't well exercise
And all thou wanted is to call it a quit
Peace! Thou might be nigh thy greatest hit!
When away from the world thou wish could fly
And all thou wish is just a relieving sigh
Still! Coming is the sunny side
"All sun and no rain makes a desert"
Take this and treasure in thy heart
There are some who do care
Or at least one who thinks thou are dear

When thou feel the weighty load
Remember, many are they that go the same road
It's fire, and not water, that forges the rod
And in all this, never forget the help of thy Lord.
