If Tears Are Due To Flow Poem by Mark Heathcote

If Tears Are Due To Flow

If tears are due to flow
If your lips are palpitating, child.
Do not bite them if tears are due to flow.
Child, let them go.
Do not hold on to your emotions.
Let all fires run their course.
Do not poison the wellspring of your heart.
Do not flood the foundations of your house.
Do not let tempestuous fires rage unheard.
Remember every tear that you've-
shed also once fell from the sky.
Your tears are the mists of ancient times.
They've thundered and roared.
They have foamed in the briny dark sea.
They never asked for permission.
They never once said why do you
Look unworthily at me and smile.
Or I'm ashamed to be me.
Oh, if tears are due to flow
If your lips are palpitating, child
Oh, if tears are due to flow
Child, let them go.
And let your eyes fill up with tears.
It isn't with pride, so let them fall.
Open up your heart like the heavens and pour
And later, you'll see sun rays come your way.
And later, you'll see sun rays come your way evermore.
And later, you'll see sun rays come your way forever more.
