If We Could Only Poem by Vukasin Vucenovic

If We Could Only

If we could only live,
and understand life.
If we could only live
Like the rivers and mountains and sky,
hurling towards our ends with such
determination, constantly pushing forward.

If we could only die,
and undermine death.
If we could only die
like two leaves disjointed from their tree,
unknowingly floating on wind,
to their sudden doom.

If we could only do
one of the two
And not live between the constant motion of life,
And constant awareness of death.
If we could only love.
