I'm Gearing Up To Leave Poem by Mark Heathcote

I'm Gearing Up To Leave

I'm gearing up to leave, up tracks and hit the road
and follow the river wherever it might flow
because I don't belong here
and I don't care where I go tomorrow,

I'll go and get my backpack, adios,
Farewell and goodbye tomorrow, I've got to fly,
I need to feel free and alive,
Darling, I don't mind waving goodbye, tomorrow.

Darling, don't you cry it's been just swell
Don't be sad because I've seen enough blues
Oh, darling, I'm gearing up to leave you.
follow tomorrow a dry riverbed to the world's end.

Darling, I'm not dead, but I'm not spending
Another hour praying for a fool's gold
I'd rather sleep on heaven's doorstep in my vest
Then transgress any longer with you as my penalty.

Darling, I'm stuck in another hole
Without the will to live or cry.
That's why I'm moving on tomorrow
I want to see the wide world tomorrow
But oh darling, just for tonight
Give this wily old fox a place to live tonight.
Oh, my little Red Riding Hood it's always been you I swear.
Oh, my little Red Riding Hood
Let's spend the night and may tomorrow never come.
