Imagine Poem by Pensive Phoenix

Imagine

Rating: 5.0

I cannot imagine bombs dropping at night,
And the screams in the rubble,
And the smoke in the sky.

I cannot imagine gas infected lungs,
And the canker in cough,
And the splutter for breath.

I cannot imagine hunger or thirst,
And the flies on my face,
And the limbs that are gone.

I cannot imagine a bullet in my gut,
And the wounds from a warpath,
And the stench infested death.

I cannot imagine no eyes or no arm,
And a shot mother and father,
And no clothes or no home.

I cannot imagine having aids at thirteen,
And walking ten miles for water,
And having horrors that won’t let me forget.

I cannot forget the sounds of their gasping breath,
The sight of their loved ones in the clutches of death,
It was so easy to imagine before I saw them,
Before the door was opened from whence reality came.
I could dream of anything beautiful and good,
I forged memories from the places I stood.
From the footprints I left,
I have been left cold, alone and bereft.
My mind has been broken,
As these visions have spoken.

I cannot imagine a playground of mines,
And a road too dangerous to thread,
Or the mother holding what’s left of her child,
Another reckless one
Dead,
Her tears,
Their pain,
I cannot imagine.
