In Case We Forget Poem by Samantha Adam

In Case We Forget

Rating: 3.5

In case we forget the sleepless nights, I hope we can hold on to the reason why we stayed awake so late.
If someday the trust is gone, I pray to what we have that the secrets between us remain intact, and the reason of why we trusted each other comes to mind.
If we forget how close we are, let's look back at the letters, the words we said, and the ones we didn't.
If one morning we wake up, feeling absolutely nothing, feeling no sense of reason that is enough to remain the way we are, I hope we at least don't regret the things we did, the things that keep me awake at night, the same ones that I sometimes don't want to think about.
In case solitude convinces you that it is fine to remain alone, that it is okay, and better not to call, I expect you to remember of the times that you dialed and how every time I picked up.
If the only thing that lives in our heads is the arguments, the fights, the disagreements, I beg you to forget those screams, the guilt, and to at least recall the laughs, the jokes, the things that kept us together, the kiss.
In case we forget it all, in case we forget about us, let's keep the promises, let's not talk, its okay if we try to forget each other, but the promises are the ones that brought us together, that kept us for the days, months, and years, that kept us longer.
One of those promises was to never forget, I would like to keep that one.
