In Search Of Happiness Poem by Bireswar Halder

In Search Of Happiness

A full moon night,
Trees quiver to the dancing breeze.
River waves murmur on in a magic ease.
The earth never looked more like a paradise, so bright
Wads of tatters make that old pauper's pillow,
On pavement he stretches his weary body
A cool indifference in his face, eyes in a soothing calm,
When moonlight lengthens on his face.

Are those treasures I own an illusion?
My heart with no peace, burning in satiety.
In a decorated modern mansion,
I live in agony and unending embers of longing.

Every night brings me miseries,
I feel discomfort with human cries.
No sleep even on a cozy bed
As if made of thorns - tears roll on.

The walls are a witness to my sighs,
They whisper my life of lies.
And in a mocking silence,
So much of wealth against a rotting body.

In search of happiness in treasures,
I have lost all, happiness in flight.
I believe this sad mansion will collapse,
With the sad end of my life perhaps.
