In This Town Poem by Barney Rooney

In This Town

Rating: 5.0

in this town
it is not the common way to meet the eye
of even an almost brushing passer-by
in this town
it's rare to chance a glance to greet
just you and me in an empty morning street
in my town
a passer- by would wonder why
if you didn't try to catch their eye
in my town
who bears the sorrow brings the joy
we know the man for we knew the boy
in my town
we like to know the ifs and buts
are you of them or one of us
for we know
that the meeting of eyes means
the truth can see and the soul be seen
how else but
fix the eye to test the trust
but will it always be thus
in my town

Barney, A nice poem to start the New Year! ! This summer I will be visiting my hometown, looking forward to walking familiar streets. Only a few of my classmates are left, but, we will gather for wine and song..
