Independence Day Poem by Savita Tyagi

Independence Day

Rating: 5.0

Milky ocean springs from her breast.
Rivers of honey flow in her kisses.
Her ever erect Frame protects us like Himalayas.
Floods of Monsoon-love nurture our whole being.
Heaven lies at Mother's feet.

Because India broke the chain of Slavery
On this revered and auspicious day,
That we are able to roam the earth
As free and independent beings
In mind, body and spirit.

"Vande Matram"

Happy Independence Day to all the people of Indian origin,
In India and abroad.

August 15th is also the birthday of revered patriot, poet and a person of high wisdom and spirituality Sri Aurobindo.
Below are the few quotes form his most important book Savitri.

'The gods are still too few in mortal forms."

" The life you lead conceals the light you are.
Immortal Powers sweep flaming past your doors; "

" Man sees the Highest in a limiting form
Or looks upon a Person, hears a Name."

"One Force shall be your mover and your guide,
One light shall be around you and within;

"Face the high gods crowned with felicity,
Then meet a greater god, thy self beyond Time"

I do NOT understand Savita's first stanza, nor the quotes listed. : (

Images of first stanza reflect a bit of India's geographical and cultural view. Lines from Sri Aurobindo's poetry reflect India's spiritual ideology.

Happy Independence Day to India and Indians everywhere, even those in Oklahoma.
