Insomnia

I try and try, but I can't go to sleep.
Night after night I just lie here awake,
Stuck listening to some loud kitten's weep,
Or the tired breathing sound that all cars make.
My body is beat, but my mind is not.
No one else is up to help me lie down.
I think a pill now might help out a lot,
And give me some rest in this restless town.

Poem of the Day

poet Henry David Thoreau

My books I'd fain cast off, I cannot read,
'Twixt every page my thoughts go stray at large
Down in the meadow, where is richer feed,
And will not mind to hit their proper targe.
