Insulting Rhetoric Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Insulting Rhetoric

Some are given permission,
To excuse...
The bitter sentiments spewed.
Targeting others purposely.
With insulting rhetoric.
Said to be,
A right to express...
Their freedom of speech.

And these same people,
Elected to represent...
A demographic,
Of their constituents.
Are given megaphones.
Talk radio shows.
And other public soap boxes.

Yet...
The ones they offend,
And subjected to ridicule.
Bigotry, racism and deception.
And harrassed,
While in peaceful protest.
May find themselves arrested.
For being who they are.
Americans!
Native born.
Patriots.
But described as law breakers.
Restless instigators.
And...
'Those' minorities.
The ones unlike the 'others'.
Who choose,
To disobey the rules...
Granted to them.
A democracy has given!
