Into Crystal Goblets Flow Poem by Mark Heathcote

Into Crystal Goblets Flow

In an unexpected downpour
unleash my heart; let words
like wine spills into crystal goblets flow
let songs ripen and burst like fruit in hedgerows
let the serpents sliver beneath my heel and toe
while I sidestep in an Irish jig
and jerk like lightning in its throws
because life is full of wonderment
and when I go, I shall be glad to go
having lived a life like a mountain river
to meet the salmon before its dinner,
before its evening - we'll dance mid-air
and neither one of us will care
if tomorrow we climb another stair
or catch a mayfly or write
another single word together.
For in spirit, we are both players in a game of solitaire.
