It Can Not Be Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

It Can Not Be

I tried to love you,
As I loved him,
For you love me, I know,
But it can not be.

I love you as a person, a friend, a bit more,
But he is the love of my life,
And for that I will leave,
Even if, it can not be.

I will not hold you there,
As a surrogate for love.
A back up plan,
It can not be.

You deserve more out of love,
And much better in life,
Than to be second best,
I know what that feels like.

So, I set you free,
Find happiness and love,
Forget about me,
Trust in God above.

I am not worthy,
Of the love you give,
Because I can not return it,
And with myself I can not live.

I will not live a lie,
Or hurt you anymore,
The love you want….
It can not be.
