It Had Been The If Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

It Had Been The If

For decades gone.
And those years to have passed.
When it had been the if,
To doubt.
Now today it is the why.
With this to wonder about,
How the impossible could occur.
To keep secret.
Without anyone suspecting,
The possibility of all things...
Should never be disbelieved.
Even life blessed to receive it,
Remains an unsolved mystery.

"And then God said...
Let us make man in 'Our' image."

-Yeah.
Check that out.
And...
Who were they of the us,
Anyway? -

"They might have been women.
To not be included in that decision,
Then to have made."

-I can imagine God has some regrets,
About that today.
He could have left Adam's rib,
Right where it was.-

"I bet they are the 'Us'.
Determined,
Not to have that mistake repeated.
Since...
There are few 'Adams' these days,
Pretending they know nothing...
About the ways of the many 'Eves',
God had no choice...
But to give them a voice."

-Whoever first said,
"Ignorance is bliss."
Could have been a prophet.
Trying to save us guys,
From saying too much too soon.-

"You mean,
Like 'I Do'? "

-And...
I love you.
Two of the most dangerous comments,
A guy can with consciousness make.-
