It Should Have Been Poem by John W. McEwers

It Should Have Been

Remember when you saw me walking
down the same street as you and we looked
into each other?

That was our chance
that should have been taken.

Remember when I drenched myself in water
at the pool doing a cannonball?
I knew you were watching
and we both knew
something should have been.

Remember calling out that name
that wasn't mine
but should have been?
