It Will Not Happen To Me Poem by Shalom Freedman

It Will Not Happen To Me

Rating: 5.0

In some way I believe it will not happen to me
I will not suddenly be unable to speak
I will not suddenly no longer know who I am
I will not suddenly be unable to move
I will not suddenly become totally dependent on others
I will not suddenly become a burden and source of suffering to my family
It will not happen to me
I am who I am and know who I am and am strong and aware
And I will go on and on and on
Though I know it must end
It will always be put off indefinitely
I know it will not happen to me
Until it does.
