Its Not Easy To Save The World Poem by Luke Butler

Its Not Easy To Save The World

It is not easy to save the world,
If killing me would save the world, would you?
If not, you are one of the few,
But you should not, at least I say, let me give you reasons,
I love trees, leaves, and fall is my favourite of the seasons,
I am old, yet young, still with many years to break even,
I am losing hope, and need something to believe in,
Never having loved, or done anything grand,
I am afraid of the air, a lover of land,
But you do not know me still, and so killing is easy,
To protect ones self is nature, its breezy,
And I suppose I am doing the same,
Willing to damn the world to save myself, I too am to blame,
But I am not pulling the trigger, that is you,
Taking a life... That is not something you can undo,
It is not easy to save the world,
when we watch terrorists come from there holes,
Cowards? we shout, as we blast them to protect our goals,
Killing them, before they kill us, and yet at what cost?
Innocents being murdered, we have not won, but lost,
I ask myself what are the names of those who died,
If they too liked, trees, leaves, or even the tide,
I ask myself, were they afraid, did they still have hope,
Oh God, how did they cope!
I never was a pacifist, they got enough hate,
Yet in a fight no one wins, that is fate,
I reflect upon my inaction, and realize that I am a fool,
I would not stand, because I wished to look cool,
I will not tell you how to think, that is on you,
But I hope I gave you a new view,
It is not easy to save the world... But that you knew
