Joan Poem by Francis Duggan

Joan

She sits on a timber seat in her back garden
The birds are singing on the sunlit trees
And the pleasant aroma of the flowers and roses
Come wafting to her in the gentle breeze.

The butterflies around the flowers are flitting
She sense them near though them she cannot see
Her world is dark and she only sees dark shadows
Though she can see things in her memory.

Her black Labrador 'Bill' at her feet is sitting
And from her he is never far away
He is her eyes when on the street she venture
And he leads her to and from the park each day.

Whenever I meet Joan she seems so happy
And she always greets me with a warm hello
I look on her as an inspiring person
And she is one that I feel lucky to know.

She sits on a timber seat in her back garden
In the warm sunshine of a Summer's day
And at her feet her faithful dog is sitting
And from her he is never far away.
