Just Walking Poem by david z..

Just Walking

Rating: 5.0

You walked away.
I left you behind.

My heart, my soul in retreat and afraid
A blind eye is turned, a love not pursued

My aching heart soothed by reasoned fear
For I grasped the sickly sweet familiar,
Backing into its safe confines, dwelling in the known and holding it ever so tightly

You walked away.
I left you behind.

The mind the deceiver, the heart the believer
Supposed reality wins the day, many years the heart is held at bay

False conclusions leap abound and around the brain
Caution revels in its hollow triumph

If the fool rushes forth in love, then I deem the fool wise
All I needed to do was follow, I see this now through clear eyes

You walked away.
I left you behind.

It was fear without reason, a stiff-arm to the heart
But It was only I who walked away
I left you behind, I left love behind

You…you were just..walking.

i like how you changed from You walked away to But It was only I who walked away. i believe there are times when the brain knows best! but i suppose it depends on the brain! i have been lucky (three divorces etc) that my heart and brain seem to work pretty well in unison to make the big decisions. or sometimes luck is involved. does that come from the spleen? i also like that you, apparently, were comfortable using lines of very varying lengths, AND did not feel compelled to use rhymes........though i DO love rhymes (good ones) ... thanks for sharing.

Yes. I too have many regrets. Yet I am only left to ponder if it was for the best or was I just procrastinating and wasting my options. Such is life. Good poem David.
