Land Of Dreams Poem by Kate Meyer

Land Of Dreams

Where night and day
are one of the same.
Where time is frozen and yet goes on

What is this place?
That is so close,
yet so far away.

Known to man,
but also unknown to us
Making it a mystery.

So is it real or is it fiction?
This is the question you must ask (yourself)
Do you believe it is real or do you believe it is not?

While you watch (observe) one scene:
A bright and green peaceful forest in middle summer;
Two squirrels, one bright gold and the other dark chocolate brown, leaping from tree to tree.

And on the other a mirror image of the same wood, but in a complete winter haze;
Pure white snow littering the ground and still continuing to fall gently to the earth floor
On a bare branch near the top of tree closest to you, a lone old owl makes his perch.

Staring at you with its big gold distant eyes,
Unmoving and unblinking it begins to speak to you
“Who are you? What brings you here? ” it asks still staring.

Then everything begins to fade to nothing,
The owl’s words still echoing in the darkness
as you fall deeper and deeper into the endless black void.

Sunlight shines across your face as you awake in your room-
like nothing had happened.
The owl’s words ring in your ears as you get out of bed;
Promising to yourself that you shall return to that place
and will answer the mysterious owl’s questions.
