The Bard's Song Poem by Kate Meyer

The Bard's Song

Verse 1:
Come, come!
come gather round,
take a seat and relax by my fire
And I’ll sing a tune or two-
about the tales and legends of old.
So what will it be my good sir or madam?
just tell me the name, and I will begin to play.

Chorus:
I’ll sing about heroes, heroines, and underdogs;
damsels in distress, brave knights, and comical kings;
simple woodsmen, maidens of fine, and tales of home;
noble thieves, evil villains, and maybe even a sorcerer or two.

Verse 2:
How I love to reenact and pay my tribute to these
wonderful tales and legends
Do go ahead and jump right in, there’s no need to be shy
Immerse yourself in the words,
and become a part of the tune for a while.

Why are you still standing here for?
Don’t you have a princess to save, or
an ogre, dragon, or some other creature to slay?
A evil ruler to over throw, a farewell to say
A perilous quest for a magical item, a series of trials to face
Or perhaps bid arrival of a legendary hero, prophesized long ago.

Chorus

Verse 3:
I’m a bard by trade, yes indeed
though I play not for just the coin
For you see-
I play to entertain;
I play to bring happiness to all I meet
I play to bring a ray of hope in the darkest of days
I’ll play and I’ll play, to see the smiles on people’s faces.

Outro: My work here is done, when I see the joy in their eyes,
and that my friend is payment enough
for this old Bard.
So I pack up my instrument and grab my cloak,
As I bid you all farewell.

Chorus
