My Writting Style Poem by Kate Meyer

My Writting Style

I’m often asked,
what inspired me to write the things I do
And most of the time all I can say
is that it just came to my mind.

Whether that be a word-
that someone spoke,
Or just some random thought-
a funny line, or maybe a picture.

I am one of those few
whose mind is always in another place
where stories begin,
songs are sung and played, and
poems are written

Sometimes I could just be thinking
of an old picture that I thought looked cool
While my subconscious takes control:
my hands writing without my notice,
set on autopilot

Before I know it,
I can look down and see
a poem or song in the midst of creation
And I wonder how it got there.

I stare at it for a time, and
think to myself-
‘It would be a shame for this work
to not have an end’

So begins even more writing:
finishing line after line;
stanza after stanza;
and verse after verse;
till it’s finally finished.

I would check it for any need of
edits or corrections here and there.
Then lean back in my chair,
looking at this new piece of literature
Reading it again with new eyes,
and no emotion until I reach the end.
Only nodding once, satisfied
with the work.

I claim not to be the best,
I care not for boast,
So when I ask for you or another to read
and review

I’m simply asking if it wasn’t as,
bad as I was led to believe
I say that about my work
because I can still see
the potential it has to offer,

that it still has not reached its full.
Much like my fellow writers and their work
For we have not reached our
creative limit yet
Meaning we can offer so much more.

And until the day comes
where all inspiration is gone.
I shall keep writing, keep giving
my words meaning and life of their own

and attempt to express what
kind of creative person I am.
